Thursday 8th -- afternoon

And so we leave the Glencoe Visitor Centre... as remembered, late on Saturday:

We leave the Visitor Centre. The main road is still very busy, we turn off onto a road, perhaps, less travelled. The road follows a loch -- the name escapes me, I may fill it in for the print version of this travel journal. I do remember that the road leads to Kinlochleven. (Is that a hint to the name of the loch?)

It's a pleasant drive, nice views, not too much traffic.

btw, in real time: News on tv includes storms and flooding in Scotland. We've seen rain, 3 or 4 puddles covering half the road, nothing worse. So far :-)

Kinlochleven is the site for a hill run that I looked at. It's a stop on the WHW walk (I think). There is also The Ice Factor.

The Ice Factor is an indoor set of climbing walls. Plus an ice wall -- a block of ice, 3 or 4 metres high, for climbing. There are signs that ice climbing may be a thing in the area. Outdoor ice climbing, I guess.

We look into a visitor centre and ask if we can drive back along the other side of the loch. Yes, with a bridge to cross the loch at the end of the drive. So we do...

Another pleasant drive :-)

From side one we had seen what we guessed was a mussel farm. On this side we see a shellfish company. Other exciting things are... good scenery. Then the bridge. A very nice drive.

After that it's a long drive with lots of traffic. With a visit to Kingshouse Hotel. Another stop on the WHW walk. We watch a few hikers arrive and leave... looking tired.

We drive past a lot of the West Highland Way. Which tells us that the WHW spends a lot of time close to roads, not very exciting (we think, to convince ourselves that we are glad to not be walking the Way). We also pass crowded laybys, with people stopping for the views -- or stopping to drop off or pick up hikers.

It's an interesting drive but I'm glad when we turn onto the quieter road into Killin.

Dinner at the hotel. Deb has baked salmon, I have pork belly. Chocolate cheesecake shared for dessert. All good :-)

Another break... it's time for Saturday dinner.
