over the last weeks I have been doing something which I have never -- ever -- done before: I am throwing out books.
over the years, deb and I have accumulated books. not for any great purpose, we just buy them and keep them.
for deb, that's it. for me, I like to re-read.
some people can listen to the one piece of music again and again, I can read a book, a good book, again and again.
my attitude has now firmed up:
every house *must* have books. so I have declared the upstairs "office" to be the "library". I say that these books will be kept. Deb is happy that they are not just scattered over the house, where I last read them.
it's interesting to re-find books which I have not seen since I was a teenager.
Alfred Hitchcock short stories which were scary enough to keep me from sleeping.
Tale of Two Cities, the start -- a pitch black road because, well, no houses, no street lights, etc... different times.
some youth favourites which I later bought in cheap modern editions (eg Edgar Allan poe).
several classics and others just interesting but no-one would look for them, so they will be here... just in case someone wants to browse something, anything.
There are still plenty of books to throw out. sigh... :-(
there are even a few books which I think, I'll reread this now... but stop. for reasons of mood.
The Exiles. I'm sure I read it in the past. good, hard, science fiction, enjoyable to a point
... until the fighting and betrayal begins -- and I stop reading.
my mood: I'm actually very cheerful -- but I want to read only cheerful books.
so I'm re-reading pride and prejudice.
sure, there is trouble in the middle, but I know that (spoiler alert:-) it all ends happily. and I am looking forward to enjoying, even feeling better for, the happy bits.
physically I am slow and a bit wobbly. but emotionally I am very well. (and not spoiling that with stress from reading.

You have an excellent attitude my friend. I am not sure I am as strong as you are.
