Peaceful Passing

***An Update From Rob***

Thank you to everyone for reading this blog over the years. My dad always found great solace in the thought that there were people hearing his views and following his journey.

After a long and sometimes difficult path, dad passed away peacefully last night. One of his requests was that we place one final update to let his loyal readers know that the name of his blog is no longer accurate.

Thank you all again for being a part of his story.

  1. My sincerest sympathy to Nick's family. He coped with an unimagineable situation with dignity and humour. You've set a high bar Nick for those of us that will follow you, goodbye my old, esteemed school mate.

  2. I feel so privileged to have had uncle Nick ( or as we recently upgraded to Unx Nick as we say in the Kimberley) in my life. He and Aunty Deb made a big impression on me with their non judgemental , wise and caring nature. I learnt a lot from him and aspire to be like him! Am failing on some fronts lol. Over the past few years we have been emailing and I’ve been looking over these emails tonight with gratitude and appreciation. What a fine, fine man! With love from Sherie

In 2005 at the end of Nick's last staff meeting at ECU As he went out the door he turned around and said to me Give me a ring. So started our fortnightly coffee sessions. Despite a lot of interuptions they continued to the present day. You have no Idea what silly things we talked about but we managed to fill a couple of hours every fortnight drinking coffee and walking and looking forward to the next coffee. We even set our objective of trying different cafes so that each fortnight one of us had the job of looking for a new Cafe. Boy did we travel around Perth talking rubbish and profundity solving the problems of the world. I miss them already. Nick was a real friend. We could talk.
By my friend you will always be in my mind.

  5. I heard today of Nick's passing and can only pass on my condolences to Deb and the family. Nick was a gentleman and scholar and I valued the times that we joined vetting at a rogaine and setting one and having the odd coffee and a chat. He was always interesting to talk with and I appreciated his observations and keen wit. He will be missed by all who knew him.
