saturday

we are comfortably settled in to Croft Cottage.

on friday we leave chambers...
the car...
okay. our hire car is a citroen. its a bit bigger than we expected but easy to drive.
the car has a gps
deb sets the car gps to a town near our destination. just to get us started.
i have downloaded map data to my phone. i switch the phone to flight mode, to test it :-) and let it navigate to the exact address. yes, car and phone go the same way...

we start off along all sorts of back roads. as i assure deb, the local drivers know how to avoid oncoming traffic. its no trouble. not for me anyway.

we stop for lunch... somewhere. the New Inn, or Green something. a pub which happens to be on the same road as us.
its a bit upmarket.
deb has a New York Deli sandwich, i have melted camembert with beetroot. both are delicious.

i want to find our cottage on maps, it takes a while to get the correct name. croft cottage holiday... i think. so many croft and cottage similar names. its okay, i know the actual address.

we arrive, park, have some bother. only two cottages, ours seems to be less obvious... which it is not, monce we find it.
we should phone the manager but dont, we just let ourselves in. its very nice.

Chambers has lots of usb ports and enough food for three breakfasts. but narrow stairs and low ceilings.
due to the stairs i left my case in the car, just carried in a few essentials.
Croft has a few obstacles but high ceilings. and one small packet of biscuits. we move in, cases and all. and settle in.

we are a ten minute walk from Gurney Slade, a gillage with a shop, one possibly two pubs, not much else.
we walk to the shop, buy groceries, come home again for cups of tea.

later, dinner is cheese sandwiches.

saturday.
it's drizzly rain. we could go out... but don't.

today is Coronation Day. King Charles 3 in case anyone wonders.
we settle down. watch the drizzle outside and the tv, coronstion, inside. its very impressive. its also a good way to get the feeling that yes, we are in england.

we also wash a load of clothes.
i send an email to the owner. let him know, finally, that we are here.
i also ask him if the washing machine also dries. it doesnt. so i hang damp washing here and there in the cottage. yes, it starts to look like home. lived-in :-)
